… Ghana as a premier destination for accessible, affordable medical tourism
President of the African Medical Tourism Council (AMTC) and CEO of Britannia Medical Centre, Doctor Kobby Appiah-Sayki, has said that Ghana is a premier destination for medical tourism.
Appiah-Sayki was speaking at a press conference held on the final day (day 3) of the just concluded 19th Akwaaba African Travel Market, defending her position with four core reasons that underscore Ghana’s commitment to effective healthcare delivery which according him, stands it out as a premier destination for medical tourism.
He explained that Ghana boasts of a cadre of highly skilled medical professionals, both locally trained and with international qualifications, adding that Ghana’s medical services offer exceptional value for money.
Hence patients seeking high-quality healthcare can benefit from competitive pricing without compromising on the quality of care received.
Stating that the AMTC acts as a regulatory body and advocate for patients, Appiah-Sayki emphasised that the Council plays a crucial role as a regulatory body, ensuring the highest standards of care for patients.
AMTC, he added, also advocates for patients’ rights and ensures a transparent and ethical medical tourism environment.
The AMTC delegation also shared that it was committed to removing all barriers to medical tourism which includes overcoming challenges related to distance, travel, accommodation, and navigating the healthcare system.
“Ghana welcomes medical tourists with open arms and strives to make their journey as seamless as possible,” Appiah-Sayki said.
He further highlighted AMTC as the driving force behind a transformative journey that melds cutting-edge healthcare with the rich cultural tapestry of Africa.
“The Council consists of major hospitals in Ghana, including ‘The International Maritime Hospital (IMaH)’; ‘The Bank Hospital’; ‘The University of Ghana Medical Centre Limited (UGMC)’; ‘LuccaHealth’; ‘Britannia Medical Health Center’; ‘Jubail Specialist Hospital’; and ‘Bethel Dental Clinic’,” he said.
The medical practitioner disclosed that these institutions offer a wide range of specialised services, including but not limited to Plastic Surgery, Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Orthopedics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Urology and Cardiac Surgery.
They also offer Gastroscopy, Dental Implants, Fertility and IVF, General surgery and Minimal access surgery.
Appiah-Sayki also used the opportunity of the press conference to announce that AMTC has officially partnered with Adansi HealthTourism Limited to further bolster the movement of Africans into Ghana for medical procedures.
The partnership, according to him, aims to streamline the process, provide comprehensive support to medical tourists, and reinforce Ghana’s position as a leading medical tourism destination on the African continent.
The press conference served as a platform for sharing these essential insights and fostering collaboration among healthcare institutions, governments, and stakeholders in the medical tourism industry.
It reinforced the commitment of the Ghanaian delegation and the AMTC to promote healthcare excellence and accessibility across Africa.
As a special incentive, the AMTC announced that the first 100 people who travel to Ghana for medical tourism following their visit to the 19th Akwaaba African Travel Market will be eligible for 10 per cent discounts on medical procedures.
This exciting offer according to Appiah-Sayki underscores Ghana’s commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services and ensuring that medical tourism is accessible and affordable for all.
