The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Senator Hadi Sirika, has said the reshuffling and change of on managing directors and directors in the agencies would continue until May 29, 2023.
Sirika said this, while inaugurating the newly expanded General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Murtala Muhammed Domestic Airport, Lagos.
In less than seven days for the federal government to dissolve the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in preparation for the inauguration of the new administration on May 29, 2023 the managing directors of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have been relieved of the offices with immediate appointments as replacement.
In the same vein, some directors in the agencies were either relieved of their duties or reshuffled.
Delivering his speech earlier at the commissioning of the phase 1 of the expansion project of the GAT, Sirika said the project was conceived to address the decades-long limited capacity challenge of the terminal that posed pressure on the facilities, especially at peak periods.
“We therefore evaluated the situation, and decided to expand the terminal, as a short term measure to address the situation. It is our intention to build a new and much bigger domestic terminal in the nearest future.
“The facility we are commissioning today is a product of that thought, and it is only the first phase of the project. As soon as we put this to use, we hope that the incoming administration will continue with the construction of the second phase,”
“The project started early last year, and I am glad that the first phase was completed in record time, and is being commissioned today,” he said.
The facility contains brand new protocol lounges, airline office spaces, VIP lounges, with the complements of conveniences that will enhance safety, security and comfort of passengers.
Sirika disclosed that he expansion work cost N2.2 billion was handled by Messrs Glovesly Pro-Project Limited and the terminal having a capacity of 1,024 passengers.
