In line with it’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative programme, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Tin Can Island branch has donated the sun of N500,000, school bags and umbrellas to both teachers and students of the Lagos State Model College Kankon in Badagry.
According to the Port Manager of Tin Can Island Port Complex, Mallam Buba Jubril, the CSR Programmes to the school was aimed at encouraging and appreciating the school whose student, Josephine Krisliwedo Hunpe, won the NPA’s Quiz competition which was held to commemorate the 2022 World Maritime Day celebration.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Port Manager who was represented by the Principal Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, Mrs. Hauwa Usman, said the Lagos State Model College Kankon, Badagry was one of the few schools chosen for coming first amongst 3,000 schools which participated in the competition.
Usman also added that the gesture was also to encourage other students of the same school to strive to be like their mates since the school is the best among other good schools.
Also Speaking at the event another member of the Tin Can Port delegation, Mr. Sola Adesanwo, Head, Corporate and Strategic Communications of the Port added that the children should endeavour to dream big and not allow distractions as this will help them to easily achieve their goals and make them stand out among their peers.
The Principal of the school, Mr. Ibitoye Olusegun, earlier in his welcome address commended the Port Manager and his management team for the amazing gesture, adding that he never imagined any organisation remembering them in the remote village of Kankon in Badagry where the school is located.
He assessed the gifts as a big motivation for the students as these would encourage and make them look back in the future and say it was a turning point in their lived and would also make them imbibe the spirit of giving.
The principal told the visiting team that he was truly elated and that this is a practical reflection of the rewards which goes hand in hand with sanctions in the educational sector.
He later prayed for the organisation and the delegation.
