Ethiopian Airlines has annouced plans to commence direct passenger flights to Mauritius, marking a significant boost to regional connectivity and tourism across Africa.

The new service, set to begin on July 12, 2026, will operate three times weekly to Port Louis, the capital of the island nation of Mauritius. Flights are scheduled for Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

The airline said the introduction of the direct route reflects its strategic commitment to strengthening intra-African connectivity while supporting economic growth, trade, and tourism within the Southeast African corridor and beyond.

Group Chief Executive Officer, Mesfin Tasew, described the new route as a major step in making travel to Mauritius more accessible for both African and international passengers.

“We are delighted to launch this direct flight service to Mauritius, making it easier for Africans and other international tourists to visit this beautiful island destination, while also enhancing business and trade opportunities,” he said.

Before the introduction of the direct service, Ethiopian Airlines served Mauritius through interline and codeshare arrangements via regional hubs such as Johannesburg, Nairobi, and Antananarivo. The new non-stop flights are expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve passenger convenience, while offering seamless connections to the airline’s extensive global network.

Industry analysts said the route will not only boost tourist traffic to Mauritius but also deepen commercial ties and facilitate stronger people-to-people interactions across the region.

With this expansion, Ethiopian Airlines continues to consolidate its position as Africa’s leading carrier, advancing its vision of connecting the continent more efficiently to itself and the rest of the world.
