The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) recorded a strong showing at the 15th edition of the Nigeria Aviation Awards, with its Managing Director/Chief Executive, Olubunmi Kuku, emerging as Aviation Personality of the Year.
The awards ceremony, held in Lagos on April 17, 2026, highlighted both individual leadership and institutional progress within Nigeria’s airport management system. Kuku’s recognition reflects her role in steering ongoing improvements in airport operations, infrastructure upgrades, and service delivery standards across FAAN’s network.
Beyond the top prize, FAAN’s presence was felt in several key categories tied to operational performance and human capital development. The Director of Human Resources and Administration, Luqman Emiola, received honours for workforce improvement, pointing to increased focus on staff capacity building and organisational efficiency.

Service delivery also came into focus, with FAAN’s Protocol Services Unit commended for its role in enhancing passenger experience and operational coordination.
Several of the country’s busiest airports under FAAN’s management were equally recognised for improvements in infrastructure, safety, and passenger facilitation. These include Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Port Harcourt International Airport, and Osubi Airport.

The spread of awards across leadership, workforce management, and airport operations underscores FAAN’s current emphasis on incremental but visible improvements rather than headline-grabbing reforms. It also signals a broader effort to align Nigeria’s airport system with evolving global standards while addressing local operational realities.
For FAAN, the NIGAV recognition serves less as a victory lap and more as validation of a work-in-progress—one focused on stabilising operations, improving passenger experience, and gradually repositioning the country’s airports within the regional aviation landscape.
