The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that the incident at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, was not caused by a fire, but by the activation of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system.
In an update issued on Sunday, FAAN said preliminary findings showed that the smoke seen within the terminal resulted from the discharge of the fire suppression system, adding that the cause of its activation is still under investigation.
The authority also confirmed that normal operations have resumed at the terminal, while investigators continue efforts to determine what triggered the incident.
FAAN thanked passengers, airlines, airport users and other stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during the incident, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and security across all airport operations.
Meanwhile, operations have resumed at the terminal.
