Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has reinforced its leadership and growth strategy following a three-day mid-year management retreat, as the company intensifies efforts to position the terminal as one of Africa’s leading aviation hubs.
The retreat, themed “Leadership for Total Quality Delivery”, brought together senior executives and key stakeholders to review BASL’s performance, strengthen leadership alignment and set a clear roadmap for the company’s next phase of growth.
Discussions focused on operational excellence, service delivery, organisational culture and regional expansion, with management committing to translate the retreat’s resolutions into measurable improvements across the business.
Opening the retreat, BASL Chairman, Dr. Wale Babalakin, reflected on the company’s journey over the past two decades, describing MMA2 as a success story built on resilience, competence and integrity despite the challenges encountered since its inception.
He recalled that the vision of establishing and operating a privately managed airport terminal in Nigeria was initially greeted with scepticism, but said the company remained steadfast and has since demonstrated that the model can succeed.
“We have successfully managed this terminal for nearly 20 years. That achievement reflects the resilience and capability of our team. Our success is anchored on competence and integrity.
These remain non-negotiable values, and I urge everyone to uphold them consistently”, he said.
Looking ahead, Babalakin said the resolution of long-standing concession issues has created fresh opportunities for BASL to expand its regional influence and strengthen MMA2’s international profile.
“In the coming days, we will sign the settlement agreement to further position MMA2 internationally and advance our ambition of becoming a leading aviation hub in Africa”, he said.
He also acknowledged the support of the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu in resolving concession-related issues, noting that the progress places greater responsibility on the company to sustain excellence, deepen collaboration and build an organisation that inspires confidence.
Reaffirming BASL’s long-term vision, Babalakin said the company’s ambition is to operate the best airport terminal not only in Nigeria but across the region through continuous improvement, honest self-assessment and unwavering commitment to quality service.
Lead Consultant at O’BIA Consulting and facilitator of the retreat, Mrs. Olubanwo Adeosun, described the programme as an opportunity for the leadership team to take an honest look at the organisation’s current position while aligning around its future direction.
According to her, the retreat encouraged open conversations, strengthened collaboration and reinforced collective responsibility for driving the desired organisational transformation.
Speaking on the outcomes of the retreat, the Acting Chief Operating Officer and Head of Space and Premises Management, Mr. Kola Bamigboye, said the management team emerged energised and fully committed to implementing the decisions reached during the sessions.
He said BASL would focus on strengthening leadership alignment, improving communication and accountability, while ensuring that the commitments made at the retreat translate into measurable operational improvements.
The retreat featured interactive sessions on leadership effectiveness, operational improvement, service delivery, organisational culture and strategies to prepare BASL for regional expansion.
BASL reaffirmed its commitment to delivering world-class airport services, enhancing the passenger experience at MMA2 and consolidating its position as a leading player in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
