The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into a train derailment incident that occurred on August 26, 2025, at approximately 11:09 a.m. near Kubwa Station and Asham Station, about 49 kilometers from Abuja. 

The derailment, which was on a Kaduna-bound train service, resulted in six injuries but no fatalities.

NSIB Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., expressed sympathy for those injured and assured that the bureau is committed to conducting a transparent and independent investigation. 

According to him, a team of investigators has been deployed to the site to gather evidence, engage with stakeholders, and determine the direct and underlying causes of the derailment.

The investigation aims to issue safety recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future. 

The NSIB will provide updates on the investigation’s progress.
