The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a temporary increase in train services on the Lagos–Ibadan corridor to ease passenger movement ahead of the Sallah festivities, while the Osun State Government is set to operate a free train service for indigenes travelling home.
In a statement signed by its Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the NRC said it will run six train trips on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 up from the usual four to accommodate the expected surge in travel demand during the festive period.
Under the special arrangement, departures from Lagos will be at 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m., while trains from Ibadan will leave at 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.
The Corporation clarified that the adjustment is temporary and applies only to the Sallah travel window, after which the regular four-trip Tuesday schedule will resume.
It also noted a temporary reduction in the recently introduced Thursday six-trip service, with only four trips scheduled for Thursday, May 28, before reverting to the full timetable the following week.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Government will operate its annual free Sallah train service on the NRC narrow gauge line for residents travelling to Osogbo for the celebrations.
The special service will depart from Iddo Station in Lagos on May 26, with a return trip from Osogbo scheduled for May 28. The initiative, sponsored by the state government through a partnership with the NRC, allows passengers to travel at no cost during the festive period.
The NRC reaffirmed its commitment to safe, efficient, and reliable rail transport nationwide and extended Sallah goodwill to Nigerians.
