United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) has reinforced its commitment to inclusion and youth empowerment by supporting a singing competition for visually impaired young Nigerians, with blind contestant Sarima Owhur, popularly known as Sari Wonder, emerging as the winner.

The airline co-sponsored the visually impaired segment of the Henrotion in Expression talent show held in Port Harcourt on Sunday. Sari Wonder captivated the audience with an outstanding vocal performance to claim the top prize of ₦100,000.

The first runner-up, Kelly Zion, also received a major boost after popular comedian Funny Bone announced an additional ₦100,000 cash reward in recognition of the contestant’s exceptional talent.

The event provided a platform for visually impaired young Nigerians to showcase their musical abilities, demonstrating that talent knows no disability. United Nigeria Airlines’ support formed part of its broader commitment to empowering persons living with disabilities and creating opportunities for them to thrive.

Expressing her appreciation after receiving the award, Sari Wonder said: “I want to say thank you, United Nigeria Airlines. I don’t know what to say; all I can say is thank you very much”.

Founder of the Vision Rehab Centre and consultant ophthalmologist, Dr. Adedayo Adio, commended the winner, who is a beneficiary of the centre, while highlighting the need for sustained support for rehabilitation programmes for visually impaired persons.

According to him, the centre provides education, vocational training, and life skills that enable visually impaired individuals to become self-reliant and fully integrated into society.

Presenting the award on behalf of the airline, United Nigeria Airlines’ Port Harcourt Station Manager, Uche Magbo, applauded all the contestants for their resilience, determination, and exceptional performances.

“At United Nigeria Airlines, we believe true inclusion means giving a voice and a platform to those who are too often overlooked. These young people have shown that talent has no limits and that vision is not a requirement for greatness.

“We are proud to support initiatives like this and will continue to encourage hardworking and talented Nigerians who are determined to rise above their circumstances”, he said.

He congratulated Sari Wonder, Kelly Zion, and every participant, reaffirming the airline’s commitment to promoting inclusion, opportunity, and hope for persons living with disabilities across Nigeria.

Founder of Henrotion, Henry Aniakor, expressed gratitude to United Nigeria Airlines for its partnership, describing the airline’s support as vital to the success of the event.

He noted that the collaboration helped deliver an inspiring programme that celebrated creativity, excellence, meaningful connections, and lasting impact, while expressing optimism for a stronger partnership in the future.

Over the years, United Nigeria Airlines has continued to demonstrate its commitment to social inclusion and youth empowerment by supporting initiatives that provide talented Nigerians with opportunities to excel regardless of their circumstances.
