… exonerates members from such unprofessional act

National Chairman NAGAFF Council of Elders, Prince Ignatius Nwachukwu.

The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has described as unethical and unacceptable the public humiliation of Assistant Comptroller Isa A.M, a female Customs officer at the Five Star Logistics Terminal, Tin Can Island Port.

It strongly condemned the incident, which was captured in a viral video, showing freight forwarders bullying the officer at Car Park C of the terminal.

Speaking to journalists at NAGAFF’s headquarters on Friday October 31, 2024, the National Chairman of the Council of Elders, Prince Ignatius Nwachukwu, expressed his dismay and disappointment over the incident.

He described the actions of the freight forwarders as inhuman and unacceptable.

“I saw the video on social media, and it went viral. When I saw it, I felt so bad because that woman was totally humiliated,” Nwachukwu said.

“The humiliation of that woman is not acceptable to us as an association because we have rules and regulations on how we go about our businesses in the port,” he stated.

Nwachukwu, who is also a member of the Board of Trustees of NAGAFF, emphasised that their members were not involved in the incident, stressing that NAGAFF believes in addressing grievances through dialogue rather than confrontation.

“If any officer has an issue with any freight forwarder or any person, they should report to the senior officer who will handle the matter. Taking laws into your hands is not acceptable to us. We condemn it in its entirety. It is inhuman,” he added.

Nwachukwu highlighted the trauma that the officer and her family must be experiencing due to the incident and called on security agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

He also used the opportunity to call for increased security measures at the port.

“As the Chairman of NAGAFF Elders Council, I condemn that action. I reject those actions in their entirety. It is unacceptable to us.

“The perpetrators are not NAGAFF members. ANLCA has also stated that they are not their members. So, who are these people?” he questioned.

Nwachukwu who is also the Chairman Ethics & Discipline, NAGAFF,  used the forum to commend the Tin Can Island CAC, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, for his outstanding efforts and performance at the Command and solicited for more support from the freight forwarders to his administration .
