The ongoing World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) executive council meeting is revisiting the need for early warnings and the greenhouse gas watch.

The meeting being presided over by the President of WMO, Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, marks the first annual session for the new Secretary General of the Organisation, Prof. Celeste Saulo, who was on hand to welcome the Council members.

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Nigeria’s permanent representative with WMO, Prof. Charles Anosike, alongside other members of WMO executive council, are currently attending the annual meeting.

Welcoming the council members, Saulo, said: “Climate change impacts and extreme weather greatly increase the need for strong national meteorological and hydrological services. 

“Together, we can save lives and build resilience in a changing climate.”

Top line agenda at the meeting includes ‘Early Warnings For All and Global Greenhouse Gas Watch.’
