The Director General and CEO of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has emphasised the need for increased support and collaboration to enhance the agency’s weather and climate services.

Speaking at the 2025 Stakeholders’ Forum in Lagos, Anosike highlighted NiMet’s achievements and challenges in providing critical weather information to various sectors, including aviation, agriculture, and disaster risk reduction.

He noted that despite limited resources, NiMet has continued to deliver quality services, leveraging partnerships with government and non-governmental organisations, and international bodies. He called for more support to sustain and improve the agency’s services, particularly in light of the increasing demand for climate information and early warnings.

The NiMet boss also highlighted the agency’s innovative solutions, including the Electronic Flight Folder and Meteowiz technologies, which have improved weather forecasting and data management. He emphasised the importance of early warnings in mitigating climate-related disasters and promoting sustainable development.

The Stakeholders’ Forum, themed “Early Warnings: Raising Awareness on Climate Risks and Promoting Early Action”, aims to create a platform for sharing progress, collaborating, and co-creating solutions to build a climate-resilient Nigeria.
