The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has reiterated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, as the duly elected Governor of Kano State, remains the Leader of the NNPP in Kano, being the highest-ranking public office holder produced by the party.
However, the Party observed with grave concern the continuous and unwarranted interference by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the administration of Kano State and in the political decisions of Governor Yusuf.
The Party in a statement issued by its National Chairman, Dr. Gilbert Agbo Major, said: “This pattern of behaviour amounts to gross misconduct, abuse of privilege, and an affront to democratic governance.
“Such habitual interference undermines the authority of the Governor and disrupts governance structures in Kano State.
“History bears witness that similar actions in the past compelled then-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to declare Senator Kwankwaso persona non grata in Kano State, forcing him into political exile in Abuja.
“If this current trend persists, Senator Kwankwaso may once again be subjected to what is now commonly referred to as the “Ganduje Treatment”.
The statement pointed out that “political precedents abound. “The fallout between Chief Jim Nwobodo and Governor Chimaroke Nnamani in Enugu State remains instructive.
“Likewise, it is inconceivable that a strong leader such as Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State would tolerate the excesses and abuse of privilege currently being
displayed by Senator Kwankwaso”.
The statement also reiterated that Senator Kwankwaso, Elder Buba Galadima, and the Kwankwasiya group were lawfully expelled from the party through established internal disciplinary processes. “These expulsions have since been affirmed by the courts”, it maintained.
It added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been formally notified of these developments through administrative and legal channels. “Court bailiffs have duly served INEC headquarters with the relevant court orders for record updates.
“We must warn Nigerians that failure to uphold the rule of law risks dragging the nation back to a dark era reminiscent of the time of Professor Maurice Iwu, when judicial decisions were routinely ignored.
“It is on record that a Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, expressly ordered INEC to cease all dealings with the Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso–led illegal group pending the determination of an ongoing judicial review. Shockingly, INEC has continued to transact with this group in blatant disregard of subsisting court orders”, the statement stressed further.
We therefore call on the new INEC Chairman to urgently rise to his constitutional responsibility by restoring institutional integrity, respecting court judgments, and upholding the rule of law.
“Furthermore, we urge Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to assert his leadership in Kano State and focus on serving the millions of Kano indigenes who overwhelmingly entrusted him with their mandate.
“The excesses of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano State must come to an end—for the good of Kano, the NNPP, and Nigeria at large.
“In this regard, we call on the Governor to exercise his constitutional and inherent powers to dissolve the current State Executive Council and reconstitute it without delay in the interest of effective governance.
“It is our considered belief that the growing speculations about Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s possible defection to the APC are largely fueled by escalating legal pressures, intimidation, and political harassment orchestrated by Senator Kwankwaso. Enough of this rascality and impunity”, the statement read further.
