The Customs Area Controller of the Seme Area Command, Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila, has commenced his leadership with a series of familiarisation visits to sister security agencies operating along the Lagos-Abidjan corridor, in a move aimed at strengthening collaboration and enhancing border security.
Speaking during a visit to the 243 Recce Battalion, Ibereko Barracks in Badagry on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Kaila said the initiative was designed to build stronger working relationships and seek cooperation in the discharge of his statutory duties.
He described the Seme border as a critical gateway for regional trade and movement, stressing its strategic importance to Nigeria’s economy. According to him, the high volume of trade, cross-border activities, and human traffic makes the corridor highly sensitive and demands sustained collaboration among security agencies.
Kaila emphasised that effective intelligence sharing, mutual support, and inter-agency synergy are essential to maintaining economic stability and improving the well-being of residents in border communities.
He called on other security agencies to deepen cooperation in achieving their shared mandate of safeguarding the nation’s borders and facilitating legitimate trade.

Responding, the Commanding Officer of the 243 Recce Battalion, Lt. Col. Ambrose Ikoro, commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its pivotal role in border security. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining and improving existing collaboration.
Ikoro noted that the Chief of Army Staff has directed units operating in border areas to support all relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Customs Service, to ensure effective service delivery.
As part of the outreach, Comptroller Kaila also visited the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Badagry; the 15 Field Engineer Regiment of the Nigerian Army in Topo; and the NAFDAC office at Seme.
The visits, according to him, underscore his commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation and eliminating trade barriers along the corridor.
