Top government regulators and industry leaders will converge in Lagos on July 30, 2026, as the 3rd Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) Auto Summit sets the stage for high-level discussions on building a safe, sustainable and globally competitive clean mobility ecosystem in Nigeria.

The summit, themed “Nigeria’s Clean Mobility Future: The EV and CNG Journey Under the Bola Tinubu Administration,” will feature strategic presentations by the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed; the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Joseph Osanipin; the Director-General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke; and the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi.

Scheduled to hold at the Radisson Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, the summit will bring together senior government officials, automotive manufacturers, energy experts, investors, regulators and transport stakeholders to evaluate Nigeria’s progress in electric vehicle (EV) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) adoption and map out strategies for accelerating the country’s clean mobility transition.

A major highlight of the event will be the presentation by FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, who is expected to unveil a comprehensive road safety framework for the nationwide deployment of EVs and CNG-powered vehicles.

His presentation will address critical issues including vehicle certification, roadworthiness standards, emergency response protocols, accident prevention, technician training and public awareness, all considered essential for the safe integration of alternative-fuel vehicles into Nigeria’s transport system.

Delivering the keynote address, NADDC Director-General Joseph Osanipin will examine the future of Nigeria’s automotive industry within the Federal Government’s clean mobility agenda, highlighting policy initiatives, industrial opportunities and the role of local vehicle manufacturing in supporting the transition.

Also to speak at the summit, SON Director-General Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke will focus on the development and enforcement of national standards for electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, batteries, CNG conversion kits, gas cylinders and refuelling stations.

He is also expected to outline measures aimed at eliminating substandard products from the market while strengthening consumer protection and boosting public confidence in clean mobility technologies.

To complement the discussions, Federal Fire Service Controller-General,bOlumode Samuel Adeyemi will present strategies for emergency preparedness, including the development of national response protocols for EV- and CNG-related incidents and specialised training for firefighters and first responders.

Chairman of the Summit Organising Committee, Rasheed Bisiriyu, described this year’s edition as one of the most significant gatherings of automotive stakeholders, coming at a time when the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to reduce reliance on petrol and diesel through the promotion of cleaner transportation alternatives.

According to him, the summit will provide a strategic platform to assess progress made under the Bola Tinubu administration, identify implementation challenges and develop practical recommendations for accelerating the nationwide adoption of EVs and CNG-powered vehicles.

“The NAJA Auto Summit has evolved into a respected platform where policymakers and industry operators engage in constructive dialogue on issues affecting the automotive sector. This year’s theme reflects one of the most significant transitions taking place in Nigeria’s transport industry today”, Bisiriyu said.

He added that discussions would also explore investment opportunities, infrastructure expansion, financing models, consumer awareness and the regulatory framework required to support large-scale deployment of clean mobility technologies.

NAJA Chairman, Theodore Opara, said the summit comes at a defining moment as Nigeria seeks cleaner, more affordable and sustainable transportation options amid rising mobility costs.

While acknowledging the country’s progress in embracing EVs and CNG-powered vehicles, Opara stressed that long-term success would depend on stronger collaboration among government agencies, manufacturers, infrastructure developers, energy providers and consumers.

He noted that Nigeria’s vast natural gas reserves position CNG as an ideal transition fuel but emphasised the need for significant investment in refuelling stations, EV charging infrastructure and technical support services nationwide.

Opara also underscored the importance of robust safety regulations, maintenance capacity and sustained public education to ensure the successful rollout of cleaner vehicle technologies.

Industry stakeholders believe the combined presentations by the FRSC, NADDC, SON and the Federal Fire Service will produce a comprehensive roadmap for addressing safety, quality assurance, emergency preparedness and regulatory issues surrounding EVs and CNG-powered vehicles.

The summit is expected to generate actionable recommendations to guide policymakers, regulators, investors and industry operators as Nigeria accelerates its transition to a cleaner, safer and more sustainable transportation future.
