Delta Air Lines has introduced a new travel rewards offer that could give frequent Nigerian travellers to the United States more value, with eligible new SkyMiles American Express Card Members able to earn two round-trip Delta Comfort Flight Certificates and 50,000 bonus SkyMiles.
The limited-time offer, running from August 27 to November 4, 2026, is part of a package unveiled by Delta and American Express as the two companies mark 30 years of their partnership.
Under the offer, eligible customers who apply for the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Consumer Card and spend $10,000 within the first six months can earn the two round-trip Comfort Flight Certificates in addition to the 50,000 bonus SkyMiles.
The certificates are valid for eligible travel on Delta-operated flights within the 48 contiguous United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Delta said the certificates come without blackout dates, although bookings must be made at least 21 days in advance. Taxes and fees of up to $80 per person also apply.
For Nigerian travellers, the offer could be particularly useful for those who travel frequently within the United States after arriving from Lagos.
Delta operates nonstop flights between Lagos and Atlanta, giving Nigerian passengers direct access to the airline’s extensive U.S. network through its Atlanta hub.
However, the airline’s latest promotion comes with an important restriction for Nigerian customers.
The two Comfort Flight Certificates cannot be used for Lagos-United States travel. They are limited to eligible Delta-operated round-trip flights within the 48 contiguous U.S. states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
A Nigerian traveller flying from Lagos to Atlanta, for instance, could potentially use the certificates for subsequent domestic trips to other eligible U.S. destinations, subject to the promotion’s terms and eligibility requirements.
This could benefit passengers who regularly combine business, family visits or leisure trips across several U.S. cities.
The promotion also reflects the growing competition among airlines to attract and retain frequent travellers through loyalty programmes, premium benefits and other incentives beyond ticket fares.
For Nigerians who frequently use Delta’s Lagos-Atlanta service and connect to other U.S. destinations, the combination of bonus SkyMiles and domestic flight benefits could provide additional value from their travel spending.
