The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has harped on the need to settle aviation unions grievances through dialogue.
FAAN revealed this while giving a response to a publication by Sahara Reports titled” Aviation Unions Issue 14-day Ultimatum to Federal Government of Nigeria over concessions and Salary review.”
Putting the facts right to address misconstrued issues, the authority explained that the Aviation Unions during the workers Congress held on Tuesday 25th February, 2025 had raised concerns over the non-inclusion of members in the ongoing airports concession committee deliberations, and delay in the implementation of the negotiated consequential adjustment of the New Minimum Wage among others.
In a statement endorsed by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah, FAAN said these issues were presented to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during an interactive meeting with Aviation Unions held on Friday, 28th February, 2025 in Lagos.
The statement said the Minister in his response, directed immediate inclusion of the unions’ representatives in the concession committee to ensure transparency, emphasising that the unions get full information as the concession process is ongoing.
He also, assured the unions that he would also step-in to ensure the immediate implementation of the new salary review for staff of FAAN.
According to the statement, FAAN is also working with the Minister to maintain cordial relations with the aviation unions as continuous dialogue and understanding are better alternatives in addressing industrial issues.
“FAAN wishes to assure the flying public of providing best services in the nation’s Airport operations in line with global best practices”, the statement added.
