Chief Joshua Ogunleye

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has joined the maritime industry in Nigeria to felicitate the pioneer president of the defunct Dockworkers’ Union of Nigeria, Chief Joshua Ogunleye, as he turns 78. 

President of MWUN who is also the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, in a commendation letter to Ogunleye poured encomiums for the legacies left by the labour leader.

“Sir, I bring you warm greetings on behalf of my family and the entire membership of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria; and with great pleasure and honour, I heartily celebrate you on this occasion of your 78th birthday.

“It would be recalled that your iconic leadership and selfless service to humanity over several decades has undoubtedly etched your name indelibly in the annals of history and time. 

“Indeed, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria attests to your unwavering commitment, outstanding achievements, and tireless efforts in advocating for workers’ right and empowering them.

“These good deeds have not gone unnoticed. Your remarkable work cannot be overemphasised as it has left a very profound impact on our industry as well; as it has helped to mould our pathway to instilling an enduring landscape.

“The legacies of your administration as the first pioneer President of the defunct Dockworkers’ Union of Nigeria still stands and from the foundation, we have  continued to witness immense success in the struggle for the improvement of the  dockworkers’ welfare in Nigeria as it has been built.

“We in the Union are so grateful to witness your ground – breaking vision, which brought the International Transport Federation (ITF) to Nigeria; and this has grown to be truly great and lighted path, which we still ply till date.

“We are also delighted and thankful that you have consistently exemplified honourable stewardship in every sphere of duty you have found yourself.

“Once again, as you celebrate your birthday at 78, we pray that the Almighty God continues to refill your strength and keep you in a great health to enjoy the fruits of your labour. 

“May you continue to live in good health enmeshed in longevity as your soul prospers, Amen,” the letter read.
