The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Doctor Bashir Jamoh, has charged the Nigerian Maritime journalists to be patriotic in the discharge of their duty as information and education agents to the public.
Jamoh gave this charge Monday, while giving his keynote address at the ongoing workshop on Marine Biofouling, organised by the Agency in collaboration with the Maritime Technology Cooperation Center (MTCC), in Lagos.
He noted that whatever the press publishes here in Nigeria goes worldwide and becomes a reference point, hence the need to be mindful and patriotic of what is written and reported.
Stressing further, he reiterated that the journalists in the Industry should be patriotic, hence, be selective of what they tell the public, stating that whatever that is worse here in Nigeria is worst outside there.
Jamoh who has been on a tour of the globe recently, delivering papers on how to propel the Maritime Industry further, inferred that his presentations in many states of the world goes to show the impact Nigeria is making worldwide.
He however, expressed appreciation to the press for its reports which keep announcing the activities of the Agency to the public and encouraged that newsmen to do more.
The Director General promised that NIMASA would find a way to arrange training for newsmen in the Maritime Industry to further upscale their reportage.
