The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has commenced the implementation of its 2026–2030 Enterprise Strategy, launching a comprehensive agency-wide exercise aimed at translating its five-year roadmap into measurable actions across all departments.

The initiative follows the official unveiling of the strategy on March 16, 2026, and is designed to ensure that every directorate aligns its activities with the agency’s vision of delivering world-class meteorological services that support national development.

Built on the Balanced Scorecard framework, the strategy is anchored on five strategic pillars and 12 strategic objectives focused on strengthening meteorological service delivery, improving organisational performance and efficiency, and enhancing climate resilience across Nigeria.

According to NiMet, the strategy cascading exercise is intended to move the roadmap beyond policy by ensuring that every department understands its role in achieving the agency’s long-term goals.

The exercise focuses on translating enterprise-wide objectives into directorate-specific priorities, aligning operations with the agency’s strategic direction, establishing clear key performance indicators (KPIs), and linking staff performance to institutional objectives.

To ensure broad participation, the implementation has been organised into four batches covering all nine directorates and the Office of the Director General/Chief Executive Officer.

The batches include the Directorates of Weather Forecasting Services and Applied Meteorological Services; the Office of the Director General alongside the Directorates of Corporate Services and Research and Training; the Directorates of Engineering and Technical Services as well as Human Resource Management and Administration; and finally the Directorates of Finance and Accounts, Public Affairs and Customer Protection, and Legal Services.

NiMet said the structured rollout would strengthen institutional capacity, improve operational efficiency, deepen accountability and enhance service delivery across the agency.

The agency added that the exercise is a critical step towards ensuring that its 2026–2030 Enterprise Strategy delivers tangible results by embedding strategic objectives into day-to-day operations and fostering a unified approach to achieving its mandate of providing world-class meteorological services for national development.
